Development of smart card based payment applications

ICL Smart Card Group (former PTI) is an ICL/Fujitsu company supplying Cashless payment and multiplication solutions based on smart cards for use in close and semi-open environments like university campus, corporate offices, industrial towns, etc. 

The Challenge

Complement the SmartCity®, ICL’s smart card based system with such vital components as peripheral device and telecommunications software; ensure the solution’s compatibility with the Russian market requirements. SmartCity is a Smart Card based cashless payment solution, consisting of SmartCity Back Office – open, multi-platform, client-server application for card issuing, transaction processing, settlement, and database management, Card Acceptance Device (CAD) portable peripheral object-oriented applications, and multi-application development platform for creating add-on smart card based solutions. SmartCity technology has over a hundred installations worldwide.

The Solution

Utilizing in-house developed APIs, C++, VB, COM and other technologies to create a whole range of POS, ATM, ECR, fingerprint applications, develop telecoms component, provide interface with customer accounting and host systems, provide localization, documentation, testing and training. The project involved two-shift development model that allowed to reduce cost of the development and increase speed-to-market.

In-house developed APIs, C++ (Card Acceptance Devices), VB (Back Office application), Web development tools, COM technologies, Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL development tools.

The project started in 1993 with PTi (Product Technologies Inc), a Connecticut based company acquired by ICL/Fujitsu in 1998.
